We have been a dealer for EMLID for a couple of months now and are really liking their products. This is mainly due to the performance and price point that EMLID provide. They are ideal for small and also large companies that want to move into mapping of utilities and offer great value for money. In fact you can purchase two EMLID RS2 for the price of a single unit from a leading competitor and get sub decimetre accuracy without having to use expensive subscriptions or cloud based monthly fees.
I have been using the base rover configuration to good success. It not always sub decimetre and has a lot to do with where the base is positioned but for most small locating companies it is and ideal way of getting into more accurate mapping. On board GPS systems in units don’t really cut it especially if not in an open area and even then we are looking at around 1-3 metre accuracy
On our last project we did some testing in an open area which was tree lined with a base EMLID RS2 set up in an open field and the rover EMLID RS2 on our PinPointR GPR using the optional GPR Pole Kit. We were getting some very accurate results using the GPR. This test was to compare the on board GPS in the PinPointR against the base rover configuration. You could see the difference with the EMLID showing a straight line without any real noticeable deviations. This shows the benefits of RTK style Accuracy compared to single stand alone GPS units. I will download the images of the ViewPoint Software which is standard in the next couple of days.
